Toronto Public Transit Service Pulse

Where is surface service present or uneven?

See where buses and streetcars have reported recently, which routes have the most visible vehicles, and where vehicle spacing may deserve a closer look.

Current city picture

Where vehicles are visible now

Each coloured line is a mapped bus or streetcar route with at least one recently reported vehicle.

What this shows

Presence means a vehicle reported recently on a mapped route. A route without a recent vehicle report may still be scheduled or operating; feeds can be incomplete or briefly interrupted.

Visible concentration

Where activity is concentrated

Compare the routes with the most current vehicle reports. Longer routes and different operating patterns can affect these counts.

A reason to look more closely

Where visible vehicles are farther apart

Large separation between visible vehicles can flag a route for closer review. It cannot, by itself, establish a delay or passenger wait.

Observed spacing

Largest observed separation

Straight-line distance to the nearest visible vehicle on the same route.

Only routes with at least two recently reported vehicles are included.
    Recent route history

How selected routes compare with recent observations

Stored observations add time context to a small monitored set. Comparisons appear only when enough similar observations exist.

    How our surface-service approach works

    1

    Start with recent reports

Recently reported vehicles show where surface activity is visible.

    2

    Identify where to look closer

Counts and measured spacing point to routes that may deserve further review.

    3

    Do not grade service

The feed alone cannot establish reliability, crowding, delay or demand.

    4

    Add local evidence

Wards, stops and route profiles help explain what the citywide results mean locally.

Subway movement is estimated separately from station updates and is not mixed with surface GPS.
